The Diary of a Young Girl-Anne Frank-Tuesday- June 13-1944
Anne is fifteen now on
this day. She received several gifts from each member of the Annex and from the
office employees who know them.
Invasion is going on in
spite of bad weather conditions. She also reports that Churchill, Smuts,
Eisenhower and Arnold visited the French villages that have been liberated from
the German occupation. Anne also expresses her personal views about Dutch people
in Holland and what wrong notions they have about the English in their minds.
Anne also expresses her thoughts and feelings about herself in relation to
others in the Annex. She also writes that Peter loves her like a friend, not
like a girl friend. She praises him for his kindness, but she writes that
dislikes religion, table conversation, etc. He is peace-loving, tolerant and
extremely easy-going. (900)

Such a long period in the
Annex has made Peter and Anne contemplative (thought). She writes that she has
become mad about nature. She remembers a time when the magnificent () blue sky,
chirping birds, moon light and budding flowers did not attract her so strongly.
She quotes several occasions when she kept watching the beautiful objects of
nature constantly. The dark rainy evening, the wind, the racing clouds always
made her spell-bound. Looking at the sky, the clouds, the moon and the stars
really make her fell calm and hopeful. It also makes her humble and ready to
face any challenge of life.
Anne tries to find answer
to the question as to why women are thought to be inferior to men. Men are
physically stronger than women and they are the bread-earners. But education
has opened the eyes of women. In many countries, they have been granted equal
rights. Many of the men and the women realize that the disparity between men
and women on the basis of gender is unjust and baseless.
Men Against death
Anne also writes that
women should be given due respect. She says that while giving birth to child,
women suffer more pain, illness and misery than any war hero and they do not
get any reward for enduring () all that pain. They lose their beauty after giving
birth to children, who very soon leave them. They struggle and suffer pain to
ensure the continuation of human race. Anne condemns the system of values and
the men who do not recognize women’s sacrifices.

Anne writes that Mrs. van
Daan has become frustrated and confused. She has also become of Peter because
he confides everything in Anne and not in his mother. She is also offended with
Dussel because he does not pay heed sufficiently to her flirtation. Mrs. van
Daan is also afraid that her husband Mr. van Daan is going to squander (waste)
her money that she had got by selling her beautiful fur coat on tobacco. She
keeps on crying, sometimes laughing and cursing. Nobody in the Annex takes her
seriously. She keeps on complaining for one thing or the other. In a way, the
whole of van Daan family is suffering some type of disorder. Peter has gone
insolent (), his mother cynical () and his father irritable.
Anne also writes that Mr.
Kugler is supposed to go to Alkmear in a work detail and he will pass a week
there. He is trying to get rid of this by producing a doctor’s certificate. Mr.
Kleiman hopes that his stomach will be operated very soon. (585

Anne says that they are
sure of their liberation from German occupation. The Russians are also taking
part in the invasion and have started their offensive near Vitebsk.
The inmates of the Annex
are left with very less supply of potatoes. Miep is going to take a week’s
leave from Monday. Kleiman’s doctor is
confused whether he shoud do operation or leave everything to chance.

The invasion is going on
successfully. Some cities have been liberated from the German occupation. A
harbor has also come under their control. The whole Contentin peninsula has
come under their control just after three week’s invasion. The German women,
who are not working for military are being taken along with their children to
the provinces of Groninen,
Friesland and Gelderland from the central regions.
